Transporting Your Afari™

The Afari is a three-wheeled mobility solution designed to facilitate movement for individuals who have balance deficits, a fear of falling, and/or a condition such as osteoarthritis that is eased by unloading body weight, so they may participate in upright outdoor walking, jogging, or running on diverse terrain.

The Afari fosters a natural upright posture, moves smoothly over rough terrain, restores mobility, and overcomes the barriers of unsteady balance. It looks and acts nothing like a medical device, uniquely designed for use on trails, cobblestone, fields, beaches, and snow. You might be looking at the Afari and wondering how you might be able to transport it to go where you want to go for your next adventure. You can transport your Afari from one destination to another with these three options:

1. Removing the rear forks of the Afari and placing it in the trunk of an SUV. – If you own an SUV this is the simplest and least costly option for transporting your mobility solution. 2. Hanging it on an exterior mounted bike rack. - A Bike Rack like the Thule Apex XT, part # 9025XT, can hold up to 150 pounds. You can find several options available on Amazon or at other outdoor and transportation retail sites and storefronts. If you choose the mounted bike rack option, it is recommended that you transport the Afari fully assembled using a bicycle carrier with arms extending no less than 23 inches to reach through both upper frame tubes. Secure the Afari to the bike carrier using either connections provided with the bike carrier, or another form of secure tie-down strap. 3. Using a platform ramp. – There are numerous aluminum or steel cargo carrier ramps available at Northerntool.com or on Amazon. Our favorite ramp style carrier is the Elevate Outdoor Aluminum Tray Premium Cargo Carrier with Ramp. With inner dimensions of 60 ¼” L x 31” W x 4” H, it fits the Afari perfectly. With this car ramp, and others of similar style, all you need to do is unfold the ramp and steer your Afari aboard. Be sure to secure the Afari to the ramp; we recommend using ratchet straps.
